Victim responded to a rental property posting on social media or website platform. Scammers will:
- Ask for payment to secure a viewing of the property
- Use a mobile number that is not registered on the Council for Estate Agencies (CEA)’s website
- Rush victim to complete a deal without meeting in person or through a third party (not the agent)
How to stay safe?
- Use reputable property platforms rather than from social media platforms like Facebook or Carousell.
- Check that the property agent you are dealing with is using mobile number registered with CEA
- Visit go.gov.sg/rental-scams for more information on rental scams
